The reason this is titles 8-10 is because this will be about Opera's. I went to a opera a while back (2 actually) and was thinking about them for quite sometime. I'll be talking about opera's in general, then the two I've seen.
Listening 8: Opera may not have the best reputation around, but after going to some, I think that they're great. Opera's is basically a play, that the actors sing through the entire time, and basically NEVER talk during it. In order to sing that much must take a lot of skill and practice to accomplish. I know that I could never sing that loudly for that long of a time, and still be able to talk at all afterwards. I think that a opera singer/actor must practice from almost childhood to master this skill.
Listening 9: The first opera that I saw was called The Medium, which is basically about a fake physic that talked to the dead to scam people for money. Eventually the mute boy that works for her, get's shot by her from a revolver because she thought he was a actual ghost.
In this opera, the boy was in love with the physic's daughter, whom loved him back. There was a a lot of emotion between the two, and 'depression' of the parents of whom was talking with their fake dead children through the physic. The actors were very good because they sounded like they were pouring out their hearts while singing.
I'll post Listening 10 soon, gotta go now.
